True to the Faith

Recently I have been thinking and talking in Family home evening about Temptation. I feel as though I needed to say something on my blog on this topic.

My favorite place to look for guidance on Temptation is the the book True to the Faith. Under this topic I have almost everything underlined in red. I just want to mention a few things that stuck out to me.

"humble [yourself] before the Lord, and call on his holy name, and watch and pray continually, that [you] may not be tempted above that which [you] can bear" (Alma 13:28) Heavenly Father will not and does not want you to be 'tempted above that which [you] can bear'. He reaches for you and asks you to come before him.

Italicized lines under Temptation have great counsel for us to follow to stay away from temptation and Satan's influence:
'Center your life on the Savior.'
Build your foundation on your Savior, Jesus Christ. We must strive for that. Everything we do should be pointed strait to your Heavenly Father and His Son. What example are you setting?

'Pray for Strength'
Prayer is Strength. Heavenly Father is listening and he will lighten your burdens. "And I will also ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs, even while you are in bondage; and this will I do that ye may stand as witnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety and I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions." (Mosiah 24:14)Pray always and you will conquer.

'Study the scriptures daily'
Hold fast to the word of god. Isn't that what the iron rod represents? We must familiarize ourselves with the gospel. This will help us to strengthen our grip. I have to admit, this one is hard. But as you study the scriptures and apply them to your life, you will be blessed. "Whoso would hearken unto the word of God, and would hold fast unto it, they would never parish; neither could the temptations and the fiery darts of the adversary overpower them unto blindness, to lead them away to destruction" (1 Nephi 15:24)

'Fill your life with goodness'
For me, Happiness is key. 'Being happy doesn't mean every thing's perfect..it means you decide to see beyond the imperfections.' 'When you fill your life with goodness, you leave no room for nothing else.' Look for the JOY in life.

'Avoid tempting places and situations'
Temptation cant be avoided completely. Listen to the Holy Ghost. He will help you stay away from those places where you will be tempted. Don't Listen or Read media that will corrupt your mind. Stay clean and worthy.

'Strive to influence others for good.'
'As a latter-day disciple of Jesus Christ, you can be in the world but not "of the world."' Help others to live wholesome lives. You can be the good example. Be a good friend. 'Let your voice be heard in defense of moral values'

'Never hesitate in your decisions to withstand temptation.'
'Strive to follow the example of the Savior who "suffered temptations but gave no heed unto them" (D&C 20:22). Through your righteous thoughts, words, and actions, you can answer the temptations for the adversary with the same conviction.' "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you" (James 4:7-8)

I know that all of us, as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, can show and follow the light of Christ. We can choose good over evil. We can over come Satan and make this world a better place.

(Sorry for the huge post.. but I hope you will take it to heart.)

{I almost feel like i should say "in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.. " haha. }

Stay true to the Faith.
